INDIANAPOLIS, May 17, 2021 – As we move our children back into classrooms and remote workers back into offices post pandemic, we are reminded of the challenges faced from active shooters and other threats of violence in our communities. “Lockdown” is a viable safety solution to these threats but requires careful preparation to provide optimal protection.

What exactly is “lockdown?” Lockdown is a term loosely associated with locking a complete facility to prevent access or further damage once a threat has been identified. It can include “Lockout,” which would also disable the credential readers to prevent someone on the exterior from confiscating a credential and using it to gain entrance to the facility, areas, or rooms.

In response to these scenarios, dormakaba’s Keyscan platform has added “Enhanced Lockdown” to the Aurora software. Now, with a wireless fob input, an entire facility can be locked down/out with the push of a button. This feature also allows for the creation and execution of up to three lockdown scenarios on desktop PCs residing on the same network as Aurora (but does not require the Aurora Client to initiate). These scenarios could include:

• Full Facility Lockdown
• Full Facility Lockdown with Lockout
• Lockdown/Lockout of Classrooms (if it is a school setting and the perimeter doors are already locked down)
