National Crime Prevention Council Offers a Wide Range of Resources

If your company sells and installs security equipment, we recommend you take some time out to check out all the informative resources available from the National Crime Prevention Council, a non-profit organization focused on creating safer communities. Almost everyone has seen a poster featuring McGruff the Crime Dog, a Bloodhound dog mascot created to educate children about crime prevention. The National Crime Prevention Council created McGruff and continues to feature him on many of its resources.

Security customers are concerned about crime prevention or they wouldn’t be security customers. Many of them would appreciate receiving a copy of various publications from the council when you make a sales or service call with them. Your company representatives may want to consider keeping an assortment in their briefcases for handing out to a customer based on their conversations with the customer or the customer’s individual circumstances. Some of these also may make good bill stuffers.

A few examples of resources that can be downloaded from the council’s website:

· Home Security Checklist

· Neighborhood Safety Tips for Parents

· Tips and Information About Starting and Running a Neighborhood Watch

· Tips and Posters for Preventing Crime at Gas Stations

· Don’t Let Your Guard Down Just Because You Live in the Country

· Disaster Preparedness Checklist

· Apartment Safety Checklist

· What You Need to Know Before Buying Locks for Your House.

That’s just a portion of what’s available. Check it out for yourself at https://www.ncpc.org/resources/home-neighborhood-safety/

And if your company has a customer newsletter or regularly sends emails out to customers, you might consider pulling out a few tips from some of these resources to include in the newsletter or emails. Be sure to cite the National Crime Prevention Council and McGruff the Crime Dog.

The council also has its own email newsletter called Paw Prints that you can sign up for at https://nationalcrimepreventioncouncil.salsalabs.org/emailmcgruff/index.html
