The industry group Z-Wave Alliance announced the newest version of the Z-Wave wireless transmission protocol in September, now known as Z-Wave Long Range or Z-Wave LR for short. This new protocol should lead to a substantial boost in smart home systems by enabling systems to connect to smart devices located outside of the home.
