LSDI has the Right Tools for Installing all Types of Security in Historic Buildings

Following the tradition started by George Risk over fifty years ago, Labor Saving Devices, Inc. (LSDI), now part of the George Risk Industries (GRI) family, supplied the tools necessary for installation of video surveillance and security at the Plains Historical Museum in Kimball, Nebraska this summer. The museum, one of two buildings in Kimball managed by the Plains Historical Society (PHS), was built in 1904 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is scheduled as one of dozens of stops on a nationwide traveling exhibition, sponsored by the Smithsonian Institution and State Humanities Councils, called, “Crossroads” Change in Rural America,” showcasing the constant change and resiliency of rural America. This important exhibition will be in the Plains Historical Museum in Kimball from September 11-30, 2021.

Security measures needed to be installed in the 117 year old building before the Smithsonian exhibit arrived this fall. Local members of PHS and a team from AmeriCorps arrived in the spring to help with labor while LSDI supplied the specialty tools needed to retrofit the historic building. LSDI’s ¾” x 18” premium auger bit (LS-65-418) was used to drill holes to allow for wires to pass through walls and flooring. A Grabbit 10’ fiberglass telescoping rod (LS-82-112) with a Z-tip (82-350) attachment was used to reach and hook security wires while Creep-Zits wire running rods (LS-81-106) with the Z-Tip (LS-82-350) were used to guide the wires along a sidewall nearly 16 feet above without the use of a ladder. De-Coil-Zit wire reel holders (LS-56-200) were used to hold and easily unroll wire without tangle as it was installed along the interior roof line of the historic building. What could have been a week’s work, climbing up and down ladders, moving and readjusting wires multiple times and increasing chances of injury was cut down to a day and a half of work and minimal ladder use thanks to Labor Saving Devices.
